Poem by Margo M,
Class of 2019
She stands up and runs to the bookshelf
She picks out a few books about trains and pirates
Some people might say that she shouldn’t read these books
That she should be reading about Barbie and princesses
She likes pink
But not long hair
Dancing
But not ballet
She likes monsters
Not princesses
Led Zeppelin
Not Hannah Montana
She doesn’t have to be quiet
Because a man thinks he is “superior” to her
She doesn’t have to like certain things
Because society tells her to
Her life could go many different ways
She could be a doctor,
Taking care of the sick
Or a singer,
Performing for thousands of screaming fans
But NO ONE can say
She can’t
