Class of 2020 My love for magic Isn’t any mortal game I am a true witch At heart For my magic is powerful My wise tongue is advisable For I have known all from the start. I love the feel Of sparks at my fingers The doing I bid Happens within reason For I have only dreams Of having the magic I could do For the dreams I make just might come true Juxtaposed to the Halloween fraud I do things for the better No toads I turn, no bewitching of foe I can heal the sick, and stick families together So you think my magic is the best of all? So you think that’s why I do it? For love is more powerful than my magic My love for magic like fire has lit. My love for magic is stronger Than my magical power itself I acclaim the power the magic holds Like a library opposed to a shelf. You understand the real meaning of this, Why I, myself, have magic? A witch maybe, But a good soul for sure All’s real when you choose to believe it. Poem by Mariah T, Class of 2019 I see you my other half. We are two halves that make a whole We are also two wrongs that make a right. We are north and south poles. We are positive and negative charges. We complete each other like milk and cookies. Many might not know But there is an unremovable weight on your ankle. It sets you back, makes you struggle. Many might see you as a weakling, but I know you’re strong inside. Your strength is not shown in the size of your muscles. It is not shown by overpowering others. Your strength is shown in your perseverance. It is shown in your determination. The best part about you is what you give to others. You give something irreplaceable, priceless, unique. Unlike most gifts yours is not something that one can wrap and give to someone. Your gift that is transferred from one person to the other unknowingly like a cold. A gift called laughter. Your comic words and actions cause everyone to chuckle. Simply you are the wonderful to my day. You are the sweet to my potato fries. You are the sugar to my cookies. You are my everything. Completed for the Writers Workshop GT Instructional Seminar.

Class of 2019 She stands up and runs to the bookshelf She picks out a few books about trains and pirates Some people might say that she shouldn’t read these books That she should be reading about Barbie and princesses She likes pink But not long hair Dancing But not ballet She likes monsters Not princesses Led Zeppelin Not Hannah Montana She doesn’t have to be quiet Because a man thinks he is “superior” to her She doesn’t have to like certain things Because society tells her to Her life could go many different ways She could be a doctor, Taking care of the sick Or a singer, Performing for thousands of screaming fans But NO ONE can say She can’t Completed as part of the Writers Workshop GT Instructional Seminar Poem by Jacqueline B, Class of 2019 Respect is something that you can't see Respect is something that you can give to me And I give back to you Respect can be as little as apologizing for stepping on someone's shoe Or even saying thank you But respect can be even simpler From calling women queens and not "b"s By respecting other people's choices that you don't condone And if you can't do that, just leave them alone Because the disrespect re-run does not need to be repeated But succeeded So we can sit down today with Jews, people whose hair has unnatural hues, men who wear tutus, or even people who eat tofu! We can sit down together pray together and live together in peace By just using a seven-letter word R-E-S-P-E-C-T Winner of the 2014-15 OMMS Respect Contest
